Really looking forward to this one, Sept 6-7.
Actually has been 3 years, they have shows every other year but last year was cancelled due to government ineptness ["sequestration"].
Blues will be there, outside of that not a whole lot scheduled jet wise, you'd think that a military base would have a little more pull. A B-52 will be there for static, so you'll have to be there FRI or SUN to have a chance to see it in the air.
Was really hoping for a F-22 demo, or at least F-15,16 or 18 ,,, Not to be. Guess we'll have to take what we get, shows just aren't like they used to be, simple as that.

Selfridge and Blue freqs are pretty easy to find, but if anyone wants to post, feel free.

Thanks for your service ... My earliest memories of Selfridge were the F-106's, stunning aircraft.
Must have been somewhere in the early/mid 70's. They also had F-100's at the same time, I thought they were ugly and didn't pay much attention to them, sure wouldn't mind seeing [hearing] them now !

Here is my Slefridge freq list.
Keep in mind that I compiled this list probably around 10 years ago maybe more, I found them all by searching, no database.
I have no doubt some are not valid anymore, particularly the VHF I think is long gone. Some I knew the tag, others not so they are listed as I had labeled them, some I don't even know what my label means. Haven't cross checked them in years, some may actually be from city airport.

Have you found any better viewing areas? Cant really see too much of the airport ground area from there. I know one cant go around Selfridge like other places, but have you tried the buildings area to the right of your usual spot?

Yeah, there are spots within a couple minutes walk where you can view the base, or at least whats on the runway. For years we used to set up about 200 yards in front of our present spot right in the field, which is just to the side of the flightpath, perfect view of both the field and approaches/landings.
Illegal to be there, though there is a little hill you can hide behind. Besides that, to get there you have to park at some little shops right across from the boneyard then hike a mile or so through some pretty thick terrain and also climb a fence, I used to literally bring a machete with me when going there. After I found the Sugarbush route that made that spot obsolete in my view.

You can also get a view of the field by climbing and standing on some racks and old machinery that has been sitting there for years, this is right in view of my spot maybe 100 ft away.
Outside of that, there is a little trail that leads to a fence which is actually behind my old spot in the field, you also have a view of the field here and legally, downside is the fence in your face, and this area sometimes gets packed with people when the Blues are flying.

All in all I prefer to chill at my spot rather than go through any more hassle, great view and comfortable, but yeah you sacrifice the view of the field - But not many surprises with the scanners, plus not a whole lot to see on the field anyhow at most times.

I've found from the past that the best spot is anywhere on Continental Dr, off of 21 Mile, near the Chesterfield Police Department. Map here:

https://maps.yahoo.com/businesses/?...terfield, mi&b=chesterfield police department

As you can see, Continental dead ends at the government land to the north of the base. This is a pure industrial subdivision, and last time I checked, a lot of the buildings were waiting for occupancy, so there is a good chance you can sit in one of the empty buildings' driveways and view the show. You can't see the Base, but with a scanner, you'll be in the know. The BIG plus here is that Continental lines up directly with the north/south runway, and when the Blue Angels fly out a distance and come in hot, they fly RIGHT over you. Its loud, its violent, it'll scare the kids, but its awesome!

Yep, great view from that vicinity. I prefer to be a little to the side of the runway, not for safety reasons but for profile view.
Hope the cops don't block access, if they do I got a plan b, c & d to get back there.

Sept. 5, Friday 2:30pm to 4:30pm
Sept. 6, Saturday 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Sept. 7, Sunday 3:00pm to 6:00pm

Cool man - Haven't used north river for airshows in years, won't miss it a bit. When I was a kid that was a good spot, used to sit right across from the perimeter fence at the end of the runway, those days are long gone. With the river right there, no place to hide on that side.

I take it then that the Blues will be practicing on THUR as well.

Do you guys know if they run a rehearsal to practice runs and such Thursday or a couple of days before? Might be in the area to listen before Friday and Saturday.

Friday is the show for the base personnel and family members. The Blues use that as a full rehearsal.
