Does anyone know how to send messages on a dm-5r? Pulled up a pdf file of the user manual, did a word search on "messages" and nothing came up. Software shows where to store them, but not how to send, unless I am looking in the wrong place. And for the rest of the story, I know NOT to use on DMR repeaters.

Finally figured out how to send messages. tUNE TO THE FREQUENCY, press Menu then 30,select input or output, sending will be output. Select up or down arrows to go through your message choices. press menu again when you see the message you want to send. Message is sent. This is for digital frequencies only.

Don't have any repeaters in the area, no plans to use this radio for repeaters anyway. Use for normal ham call out events. Usually simplex in nature but this will allow private comms when needed. Most hams are on analog. If some have digital, they are d-star , or Fusion . So DMR, in the digital world would be pretty secure. With the programming of tg's, slots, and cc, the variables are larger. Much larger than ctcss or dec code variables. Most radios can search for a match on ctcss but dmr, most radios can't program from the keypad so anything you set ahead of time is pretty secure.,
