Sentinel: Sentinel Not Working??

So I tried to do my usually Monday morning d/l and updates and Sentinel is broken. I'm just getting "BCDx36HP Sentinel (Not Responding)" I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times with no joy. Any ideas? Anyone else?

It's an occasional issue that Sentinel's "user.config" file becomes corrupted and will prevent Sentinel from starting and running.

Try this... (If this doesn't fix the issue, it won't cause any harm)...

Before trying to run Sentinel again, go to Windows Explorer and look for this folder on your computer:

C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Uniden

In that folder, you will see a sub-folder that begins with "BCDx36HP_Sentinel.exe_Url_"

Delete that entire sub-folder (it contains the "user.config" file).... be sure you are deleting just that specific sub folder. That sub folder does not get deleted when you un-install Sentinel, so if the "user.config" file in there is corrupted, it will still be there (and corrupted) when you just try re-installing Sentinel.

Re-start Sentinel... When Sentinel starts, it will re-write a new folder to replace the one that you deleted, and a fresh "user.config" file will be in that folder.

What part of Sentinel "won't work"? Does Sentinel not start at all, or do the update functions not work? Are you seeing any error messages... if so, what is the exact message?

I can log on, just can't update anything on 5G.

I would suspect a configuration difference between your 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz settings. It appears 5 GHz isn't allowing FTP.

Thanks, never really dug into it, just really easy to flip over to the other network. Had to do the same setting up new WIFI cameras that only use the 2.4.

I just updated the master database for my 436 uniden scanner with no problems

"The remote name could not be resolved" is a DNS issue not an ftp issue. Possibly there is some configuration difference between your 2.4g and your 5g networks. If you open a cmd window and do a "nslookup ftp.homepatrol.com" on both networks, do you see your router listed as the responding DNS server on both networks?

I was thinking the same thing about the DNS after some more thought and seeing a note that it is only the Uniden website.

I think the site IP changed recently, so an out-of-date DNS server would make sense..

No database updates today for either version of Sentinel... it happens occasionally.
