Sentinel: Sentinel Software only presents Conventional Channels

I recently added some Air Care, CB, and GMRS channels. They are working as they should on the SDS200 radio. However my Sentinel USA Database now only shows conventional sites in all areas of National, State, and County???????

I thought I had a grasp on the software, however, have I checked a box causing this condition? I've tried to update the database and get the message "Database is up to date"

As I updated the Sentinel database I encountered an error. I canceled the download and thought I would try it later. Uncertain if this caused the condition.

Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know the solution?

Thanks in advance.

It is highly unlikely that your database had all trunking deleted.
Most certainly it is 'operator error' somewhere.
Start with checking your service types in your Sentinel profile.

The download - what error did you get?
What ISP are you trying to use?

Rick,

When I look at Perry County, OH this is what I see. It does show 2 P25 systems on the StateWide.

I use RR for the Nationwide Fed frequencies.

I agree operator error is suspected. I don't recall the error TBH....... thought it was a fluke didn't pay much attention.

No P25 or Trunked options appear.

ISP, I have a newly installed fiber optic 5G just turned on four days ago. It appears to be operating well.

Thanks for your response.

If you get that error message again (or any other error message) when trying to update Sentinel, write down exactly what it says and post it here. The exact wording of the error helps determine where the problem is.

As someone else asked, what exactly is the error message you see.

Also, "fiber optic" or "5G"......?????
(Tell us exactly who your provider is please).

"Fiber Optic" indicates a physical fiber optic cable either running directly to your house (FIOS or PON), or to your cable company's nearest node, (DOCSIS) then coax to you from there.

"5G" is a term used by WIRELESS carriers describing their newer high speed fixed WIRELESS data options. Note that certain wireless carriers block certain ports - one of them being FTP, which is used by Sentinel to download the database.

I will make note of any future errors, thank you. BTW, the service is hardwired fiber optic......wired into the house and then wireless connection. (5G was what the representative of Little Miami Gig of Pleasant Plain, Ohio described in his presentation). Switched to Little Miami Gig from FRONTIER service provider.

I just downloaded and the program rebuilt the system. I was going to confirm I had the proper radio identified and ran update...... IT DID!

Don't think I changed a thing.

Regardless, I appreciate everyone input and suggestions.

I'm a good bit more educated...... Thank you all!!!!

Does the ONT (optical network terminal) or the router have ethernet (RJ45) ports?
Can you run an ethernet cable to the radio?

BTW, if the rep used the term "5G", either they were referring to the upper WiFi band (possible), or were just throwing 'buzz words' around to make the sale.
Sorry, this is a pet pieve of mine - I have been in the telecom industry for decades (EE/engineer/PM) that built some of these networks - both cell/wireless and fiber) and have seen salespeople throw complete BS around.

Grrrrrrrrr!

Sir,

Thank you for the info....... you are technically way over my head......... but, I think I can say with confidence, your pet peeve is likely appropriately focused based on my history with the rep over the last 10 months.

The problem is corrected! I suspect the website had issues over the weekend and was corrected this morning. I did nothing different and simply attempted a database update download and the site did just that.

I do appreciate you input and am a better educated because of it.

I hope someday I can return the kindness to someone in need.

Have a great day.

Glad you are up and running!

.
Way back when Verizon Fios first came to town (late 2005), the sales person knocking on the door told me that the new "Verizon Fios Wireless Internet Service" was state of the art. I said that I had never heard of Verizon Wireless service to an individual residence. He said that 3 houses on my street already had it installed. As I pointed to the fiber cables on the poles up over his head, I was trying to school him that the Fios service uses fiber optics all the way to the house - when he cut me off and said "of course it uses fiber optics, that's exactly why it's called wireless... it doesn't use copper wires."

Conventional are at the beginning of a file and all trunked info at the end. So if it only got half the file it would explain why it was lacking some trunked systems.

Your first clue is "salesperson" as sales and BS tend to be synonymous. 🙄

I had tremendous difficulty updating Sentinel while connected to my home network. I kept getting an error and nothing would update, so I made acceptances in the windows defender and firewall and still nothing. I turned on my phone's hotspot and it worked perfectly the first time. I can only assume that the router was in some way blocking the software. I even pinged the ftp in cmd and it had 100% packet loss. So, that being said, try a different access point and see if that helps.

More than likely it's the ISP blocking things, but it could be the router.

Unlikely since we have not seen any cases of that in the past. Who is your ISP?
Breezeline, but this isn't the typical "My ISP blocks FTP" problem. I can make ftp connections to other servers on the Internet. I just can't connect to ftp.homepatrol.com. In addition, since my.uniden.com resolves to the same IP address as ftp.homepatrol.com, I also cannot connect to that website. I did some pretty extensive troubleshooting which I detailed here.

So either Uniden's ISP is blocking traffic from my IP address or Uniden's server admin is blocking it at the server.

Not sure if there is a duplicate thread going on, but I posted a few minutes ago in another thread that this is sounding like a DNS issue.

Try a different DNS server.
