I know that the scanner buff meeting is set up for this date, but I remember getting a couple inquires as to the IAFF Memorial in the Springs. The Ride to Remember will start in Lakewood at West Metro HQ 433 S Allison Pkwy at 0800. There will be LOTS of apparatus and even more bikes in the annual ride. The precession will head through town (ukn route) to I-25 and make its way to Memorial Park in Colo Spgs. The Memorial service will start at 1300 hrs. For those of you that have not been there before, hundreds of uniformed personnel will be there from the US and Canada to honor the fallen in the last calendar year.
To get to Memorial Park (1315 E Pikes Peak Ave)
Take I-25 S to Bijou St and go East (Bijou will split and become one way at Kiowa St, you are now on Kiowa heading East)
Take Kiowa St to Institute St (This should be the end of the road. Anywhere you can find parking, do so, it will be very crowded)
Take Institute St South to Pikes Peak Ave and go East to Hancock. The memorial will be in the NW corner of the park right at this intersection. Roads will close off some time around noonish. So, wherever you can find parking, take advantage of it.
If anyone feels like it, Jack Quinns downtown will be packed with FFs later that evening. Usually, the pipe and drum corps will bring that place down from about 5pm to whenever they get tired.
