Is the DB9 on the back useable for connection to the PC or just GPS? Would it use a standard serial cable.
Connection off the front certainely works but in my application it sure would be nice if I can connect off the back!

You can connect to the back. You must use a null-modem adapter to connect to a PC (the DB9 is configured for direct plug-in from a GPS's serial cable). You also need to set the port speed to match your PC settings (default on the port is 4800 bps, which is the standard speed for NMEA 0183 [GPS] devices).
