Hello All!
Just purchased a new HP desktop computer. Unfortunately, they no longer come with a serial port. My software for all my scanners (10) was used on my older computer which died, but had a serial port.
So far, I have yet to find a USB/Serial adapter that works on Vista 64Bit which is what I now have. So my question is this, Can you ADD a serial port to a desktop like you would add anything else using those extra empty port slots in the rear? Otherwise, I am out of luck with all my scanner control/programming software. Any suggestions?

I just used the RS usb programming cable on a vista machine yesterday to program a pro-163. It used drivers it found, never even looked at the CD with the drivers that came w/ the cable. no problems at all.

Yes, for just a few bucks you can put in a serial port into many machines.

any advice on trouble shooting serial port to COM1 connectivity to BC246T with Uniden serial cable?
My BCTool software will not talk to the connected BC246T. (I have the scanner in Xfer Information menu) It does not see the scanner. I also tried FreeSCAN with the same results.
WinXP device mgr is set so COM1 is set to 57600 Baud. In the resources tab no conflicts are noted. It is set to use automatic settings.
