i am tired of always having to have my scanners at my pc to program since i have two perfectly good laptops to do it from, however, due to the fact serial is obsolete i only have USB on both laptops. Does anyone have success with those Serial to USB converters they sell at RatShack and using them with ARC software, i really want to be able to program on the road, such a pain to manually enter in crap.

After you install your driver look for the com port number to be 4 and above. It usually starts from there. You can usually find it in the Windows system devices, under com ports, once it's installed.

Here's what I've been using. Uses the same USB bridge chip and drivers as the Uniden USB cable (I actually got the drivers from Uniden).

I think that's pretty much the one I bought on Ebay. It uses a FTDI chip set, which a lot of converters do. Works fine.
