I have both, gave my son the pro 18 two or so tears ago after hacking it. Sent my pro 668 to whistler for the official upgrade after I hacked it. My son just brought the pro 18 back to me and I loaded the same scan list to it as my now whistler upgraded pro 668. I here twice as much on the 18 as I do the 668 and simulcast is very slight compared to the 668. Was the hardware better or the firmware?

The firmware has little to do with the sensitivity of the radio - that's a hardware function. It could also be a better antenna - did you swap them out when you tested? Mike

I agree that it is not programming, but maybe the hack firmware. I overwrote the SD with my 668 file and there is night and day difference. Maybe my 668 is the problem.

The Whistler upgrade will add both P25 Phase 2 and DMR to the Pro-18. Use EZ Scan for the WS1080 for your upgraded Pro-668. It is now a 1080 after the upgrade. Use that software for updating firmware and the database.

:) Check both have the same settings throughout the scanner as well. And like previously stated by another member (tvengr), it is now a Whistler 1080, use the correct updated version of EZ-Scan. :)

Another variable will be the DSP firmware version. the hacked pro 18 will be on version 3.1 or lower, the 668 with the legacy upgrade will probably be on version 3.2.

Thank you sir, you are one of the few that actually read my post, and I think you are right.

If the Pro-18 is performing better than your upgraded Pro-668, I would try updating the CPU and DSP firmware in the upgraded Pro-668 using EZ Scan for the WS1080/WS1088.

What frequency range seems deaf on the 668?
I have a PRO668 and PSR800, both upgraded by Whistler. The 668 has always been a little deaf in the 800MHz range compared to the 800.
