I finally found a store with new PRO-97's in Newington CT. The clerk asked if I wanted to purchase a service plan for this model and I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to go back and purchase one but I would like the opinion of the people with scanner experience here to let me know if service plans are worth purchasing for a new Pro 97 scanner.

Thanks

Chris

My opinion

Over the past 40 years or so since Extended Service options have been available in nearly every consumer good, I have saved an enormous bundle of money by saying "no thank you". Fortunately, I can fix a thing or two.

In my opinion, I would not buy one for the PRO 97, but would for the PRO 2055.

I would have to agree with Fmon & KLH ... I have never purchased a service plan , in my opinion I save money in the long run....retail stores make a TON on money on ESP's I just dont think its worth it.

Like KLH said, If you were going to purchase a 2055 I would say go for it, only because there has been a lot of complaints about the display on that unit. Not many (if any) complaints on the 97.

Thanks everyone. You have all been a big help. I'm sure people know RS has a sale on the PRO-97 until next week for $150. I returned my PRO-99 AND 83 to get one. After going thru the manual the PRO-99 is not just a PRO-97 without trunking. Its like comparing apples to oranges the features of the 97 far outweigh the PRO-99 not to mention I can import my PRO-99 files into WIN-97 witho no hitch.
