Service Type Question

Hello,

Have a question re Service Types on a BCD 436.
Using Sentinel.

If I go to:

(a) Database/Edit/Edit Profile/Service Types

I end up with a screen showing all the allowable Service Types, and
a box for checking to enable which ones. Fine.

Am I correct with this:

If I now go to a FAV and a Site, where the individual frequencies are, and for
Service Type, irrespective of which I put in (e.g., a RR frequency I put in the
Service Type by error, as “Aircraft”) as long as the Aircraft box is checked in (a), I would receive any comms ?

Service types are just one of many possible filtering options.

In the most basic case, yes - you would hear channels/talkgroups marked Aircraft when the Aircraft service type is enabled.

If you have quick keys assigned, you would hear channels/talkgroups with the service type of Aircraft when you have the Aircraft Service Type and those quick keys enabled.

Further, there are also locational settings for GPS, etc. that could potentially restrict things as well if in use.

Yes.

Sometimes I'll trick the scanner to serve my scanning wishes. My local public works "stuff" is assigned to the "Public Works Service Type. I'll change that the "Custom 1" and turn on the Custom 1 Service Type in my profile.

That way if I end up scanning the full database, I won't be listening to other area's Public Works "stuff" which is not of interest to me.
