Hello,

Have an older HP-1 that I have gotten going again.
Really a nice, relatively easy (for me), unit to use.

Very confused over Service Types.

Isn't there some easy and foolproof way of turning them all on for every FL, and literally everything ?

Can't find any Global setting to do so.

Some of the very old Posts seem to imply that for other scanners like the 500 series it is possible.

Or, for the HP-1, you literally have to do it individually for each and every FL ?
Can't help but feel that the Default for all of them should be all On, but apparently Uniden doesn't agree.

What's the best way of handling this, please, so I don't miss "anything" ?

And,

Guess I'm also not too sure what "Other" really does/ mean.
What happens if I have literally everything set to Other ?

Have been missing a fair amount, as I always seem to forget about setting the Service Type.
So, why not just set everything (all the FL's) to Other ? What happens if I do ?
Would this allow the reception of everything, or...?

Thanks,
Bob

A service type is on or off globally. If you turn on Public Works, all public works channels in all favorite lists will be scanned.

Sort of:

Actually all channels tagged with that Service Type in an Active Database will be scanned.

If you have the Full Database only turned on the scanner will not scan a Favorites List regardless of any active Service Types, same deal for if Favorites Lists Only etc. are on.

The only way for all channels of a specific Service Type in the radio to be on is if all Favorites Lists and the Full Database are turned on, there is no way to set a Favorites List to turn on automatically by setting a Service Type.

You could just leave all Favorites Lists (and the Full Database if wanted) on all the time and control your listening by Service Type if you want.

Hi,

Thanks guys.
Really appreciate the help; very much.
Mid 80's now, and I have to admit that i miss a lot of the nuances, etc.

Might someone give me a brief explanation of my question re: "What does "OTHER" do, and mean ? (see my orig. Post re above)

BTW: Does RR, somewhere, show the Service Type for any and all freq's., etc ? Where ?

Regards,
Bob

They are shown in the channel information in Sentinel and in the RR database. In RR, look at the "Tag" column on the far right.

The "Other" service type is for channels that do not fit any of the other Service type definitions, usually the database admin just doesn't know what to call it.

While, on the scanner itself, you have to reset Service Types manually, one at a time, in Sentinel, you can turn all On or Off at the same time. Open the Profile Editor, either from the Edit drop-down menu, or by clicking the Profile Editor icon on the second line at the top of the screen. It's the one that resembles a piece of paper with a pencil on it, directly under the V of the View drop-down menu.
Click om the Service Types tab in the editor.
In that section, <Right><Click> on a blank area (not on a specific type)

You'll get a pop-up menu to either set all Service Types Enabled, or to clear all of them (disable all). Or, you can reset all of them to their Default settings. Default enables only Public Safety (Law, Fire, Ems, and Multi) Dispatch as well as Custom 1, But using the default setting, you lose all the Tac and Talk service types, which is not what you want.
