Hey everybody, Late notice but tomorrow (10/25/2008) beginning at 9am we are going to be having a Simulated Emergency Test. The scenario is that a major severe thunderstorm has blasted through Fort Dodge generating an F-5 tornado with widespread community and infrastructure damage. Although the local infrastructure damage is scattered in several areas, many people throughout the community are without communications, commercial power or medical services causing sporadic critical infrastructure outages.
There are sporadic power outages across the immediate area caused by the storm. Broadcast services are only on the air with fully automated stations. Overloading has caused cell systems to crash.
Because the effects are not uniformly felt across the entire area yet, many sections of the community have resources that are desperately needed. The EOC will be organizing the identification and deployment of those resources as required.
To move the messages, the FDARA ARES EC will deploy available personnel into a number of small one or two men strike teams, within various affected areas. These Strike teams will take messages to and from the various locations around the community and pass them to the Remote Operations Center at Kennedy Park via their respective divisions. Since HF propagation can be totally unpredictable, the strike teams will try to rely heavily on VHF and UHF modes, but in some cases, especially in the lower elevations of the city, this can be very challenging.
Anyone with a Ham license, or wishing to learn more about Ham Radio or Amateur Radio Emergency Services is encouraged to attend. Lunch will be provided.
We will be using the Webster County Emergency management repeater 146.685 (-) PL 110.9 and 146.55 Simplex.
We are gathering at Kennedy Park (Badger Lake) north of the airport in Fort Dodge
More info at the Fort Dodge Amateur Radio Association homepage http://home.mchsi.com/~fdara/set_procedures.htm
If you have questions send me an e-mail: burner50@gmail.com
After the SET, we will be having a field day with HF, RTTY, and SSTV
