I have noticed recently that Setauket has begun using codes, such as the EMS ones, when dispatching a signal 13. Does anybody no what these are and what they stand for, so far I've heard it happen twice, once for an auto alarm at the college, and one for an auto alarm in a private house.

Are you talking about these codes??
No, these were different. It went out as a signal 13 with a 52 something something response, if i remember correctly. I already have those codes in the link printed out and handy for my viewing.

The codes you hear are developed by Priority Dispatch, a company that trains emergency medical dispatch technicians. They form after a series of questions on a rack of "flip cards" is asked by the dispatcher of the caller, i.e. "are you near the victim?", "is the victim conscious?", etc. Every answer points the EMD to another question. When all questions have been resolved, the "code" is then formulated.
