Is it possible to separate the alert tones based on the type of call that is dispatched? If I am on the main fire dispatch channel and a rescue box type call comes out it would be cool to have an alert tone that is unique for a rescue call as opposed to a regular fire box type of call. Is this possible to do with this unit? Right now all the calls on the main fire dispatch channel have the same alert tone.

Yes it is possible and I do it with my agency. Enter the a/b tones for regular calls and use one alert tone, and enter the a/b tones for the other type and do a different alert tone.

I am a little confused. These fire dispatch calls are all coming through the same TGID on a digital trunking P25 system. I don't how the scanner would be able to differentiate between a rescue box call and a firebox call. The alert tone would have to key on the word firebox or rescue box. I am not sure that this can be done.

The alerting feature is designed for quick call 2 formatted tone alerts.

You're not confused. It can't be done.

You can do this in FTO mode. You have to use two of your FTO's. Set your main fire dispatch to any FTO besides the last one. Program in the frequency/tones a/b, and the alert settings you want along with the name. Set the immediately following FTO to your other secondary dispatch you were talking about. The second one has to be on the same frequency as the first FTO for it to work. Set tones a/b along with the other alert settings. After setting your channels up, go into FTO standby on the first channel and it will monitor both tone pairs and alert you differently depending on the dispatch.

Check page 174 of the BCD396XT complete reference:
http://info.uniden.com/twiki/pub/UnidenMan4/BCD396XT/BCD396XT_Complete_Reference.pdf

Also, you can only use FTO on conventional frequencies. (There is a frequency patched to your trunked system that is used for pagers etc., which is what you have to use with FTO)

I'm pretty sure that FTO is not going to work on a P25 talkgroup.

Thats why I said to use the patched frequency with FTO. There aren't going to be tone outs on a digital talkgroup unless a conventional frequency is patched.
