To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Setting Up Messaging & Calling Between Two XPR 7580e Radios – CPS 2.0, Firmware Differences

Hi all,

Trying to get messaging and private calls working between two Motorola XPR 7580e units using CPS 2.0. I’ve already placed both radios on the same digital channel and colour code, added each radio’s ID to the other’s contact list, created a shared contact/talkgroup, and confirmed matching RX/TX settings.

Still, messages and calls aren’t going through.

One radio is running firmware version 10.01.14, the other is on 15.05.10 — not sure if that matters here.

Would really appreciate if someone could walk me through any commonly missed steps for enabling private messaging and calling on these radios. photo_5787481179279182126_y.jpg

The contacts must be in private call to have messaging and radio to radio one on one to work.

I'm guessing the other radio has "radio 1" or some such name. It would also be private. Then you just go to contacts and you can message or start a private call. You'll need to assign them a number (both different) besides the naming scheme.

No, they are not. The radio on the left is running 2.60.05 Vintage 2016, and the Radio on the Right is running 2.10.09.001 Vintage 2019.

That's a large GAP.. But I would first make sure that the Radio ID is not the same on both subscribers and is between 1 and 65,535, or Cap Max, IP Site Connect, and just plain Conventional can have a larger top-end number. However, most people reserve 1 to 100 for infrastructure.

Next, make sure your Contact list is correct.

Then make sure that in theZone/Channel the TX Contact is either a common Talk Group "All Call", which Is a good place to start, or each radio has the other's Contact in it for a private call, along with the hundreds of things that need to be set correctly in your configuration.

Once Voice works, you can send text between the two units.

Maybe use Google to find a copy of the user manual.

Yeah, I gave it a try voice is working fine now, but for some reason, text messaging still isn’t coming through.

Do you happen to know where I can get the latest firmware for these radios? I tried accessing the Motorola portal, but since I’ve only got a non-commercial account, I’m running into access restrictions.

Any workaround or trusted source you’d recommend?
that doesn't cost an arm and a leg haha.
