I have recently acquired a BCD996P2. When I program the systems, in only shows 1 system although I have assigned separate names to each system programmed. Software shows 13 systems programmed I have used ARC-XT Pro and Proscan to program the scanner. How do I get the scanner to separate the systems to show as S0, S1, S2, etc. Groups program fine. I can find nothing explaining the way to separate systems.

Are you programming "QK"s (Quick Keys) to each System?

More info/help here:

Which systems are you programming? I have ARC-XT also. If you attach your programming files, I will check them for problems. You will need to right click on the files and Send to Compressed (zipped) folder to be able to attach them. Click on Attach files and Open the zipped folder or folders.

Thank you. I think the confusion on my end is using quick keys and start up keys. I would like to have certain counties in the same system, OSP in a system, etc.

While I check the file, here is a PDF file with quick key instructions:

The file you attached is a profile (pfl), which is a list of rsf files to open. I need the rsf programming files.

This is one of the files I have been working with. As an example, I would like to make Hamilton county and Cincinnati one system, Butler and Clermont Counties another system and Ohio EMA a 3rd system, etc.

I will be looking at your file. Here is an ARC-XT file I did a while ago using quick keys. Give it a try and see how you like it. Save the attached zipped file to your computer and extract. Open the extracted file with ARC-XT and Upload to Scanner. Quick keys as follows:

Hamilton Co OH
SYSTEM QUICK KEYS:
1. MARCS HamiltonCo (Site)
2. MARCS Cincinnati (Site)
GROUP QUICK KEYS:
1. Hamilton Interop
2. Hamilton Co Fire
3. Hamilton Co Hosp
4. Hamilton Co Law
5. Hamilton Co DPW
6. Cincinnati Intrp
7. Cincinnati Fire
8. Cincinnati Hosp
9. Cincinnati PD
0. Cincinnati DPW

I see that there are no quick keys in your file, so everything scans all of the time and you have no control over what you want to monitor. Personally, I would create separate systems for each county so you can select counties with the system quick keys. Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont Counties have a huge number of talkgroups on MARCS. If I remember correctly, the Hamilton Co/Cincinnati file I did has 500 talkgroups which is the maximum allowed per system. I had to delete some of the DPW talkgroups to avoid going over the limit. You may want to assign both the Hamilton Co and Cincinnati sites to the same system quick key since both sites are used in the system. You will be able to toggle the Hamilton County system on and off using a single quick key. As set up now, you can turn each site on and off individually to determine which talkgroups affiliate with each site. Please let me know if the quick key instructions helped answer your questions about using quick keys and if you have any other questions about programming..

Thank you. The more I read and use the programs along with the information you have sent, the more I am beginning to understand this scanner. Thanks again.

BCD996P2 Quickkeys and groups

I want to be able to press one key pad # on the scanner and get to that selected group. All groups in my scanner have a quick key # and are programed in and show up on the screen. But when I press the key pad # for that group all I get is a "BEEP".

What's happening here?..

Thanks for the response....

I'm pleading "stupid" on this one. Forgot to press the big FUCTION knob 1st.

People never get stupid, but I plead to sometimes getting confused. Uniden delivered SO much with the 996 and SDS series, that you sometimes lose track of what button sequences operate what functions.

And I also tell my friends who use various software programs to run their radios to actually do a "hands-on" with the radio once or twice a week so that you do no lose proficiency manually operating the radio.

Not exactly. While Quick Keys, on Systems, Sites and Groups (Departments in the x36HP & SDS series scanners are what are called Groups in the P2 & earlier series scanners) can be used to toggle a given item on or off during a scan sequence, quick keys will not take you directly to any item.

You probably are thinking of Number Tags, which do enable a quick jump to a specific system, group (department) or channel (conventional or trunked system TGID).
NumberTags < UnidenMan4 < TWiki
The page linked above is for the XT & earlier series Uniden scanners, but would also apply to the P2 series. (Number tags are also available for use in the SDS and x36HP series scanners.)

BCD996P2 scanner

Maybe I'm not pushing the right button?

Anyhow....

I have one System w/site and groups up and running. I want to make another site on the same system with totally different groups. I want to able to turn off site 1 and go to site 2.
I have a quick key for both sites.
The scanner shows it's scanning both sites. However, when I turn off site 1 and go to site 2, all the traffic on site 1 is on site 2. And visa versa.
I have no idea what going on here. Any suggestions would be helpful.
