SEVERE WEATER ALERT - KENTUCKY AND INDIANA

At 2 AM local time November 06, 2005, MAJOR TORNADOES inpacted the areas including Henderson County Kentucky and Warrick County Indiana - areas around Evansville Indiana, Newburgh Indiana and Booneville Indiana, especially. NOAA radio

I was awake during the storms. My weather radio did not receive an alert tone. I did not know a severe storm watch had been issued until a police officer asked the dispatcher about watches/warnings. I turned my WX radio on and left it on for the duration. Tones were being sent out. I assumed my radio was at fault. WFIE reported and NWS confirmed that the system failed. Older radios did not receive alert tones. As an owner of an older radio, I want answers before I am in the path of destruction the next time the system fails.

The system is tested every wendesday and is normally very reliable, but it failed when it was needed the most. A successful test was conducted monday a.m.
