I think I have it figured out. I believe the shaded frquencies are those that the ws1040 will not be able to support, that they would not be broadcast. Thank you to anyone that replied.

Do you mean on the database pages?

Yellow means it has been updated in the past week. Green means it has been updated in the last 24 hours.

Why are some of the frequencies shaded different colors? And do different colors mean different things?
If you are talking about the database, the red frequencies are control channel capable. The lower case "c" also indicates control channel capable. They are the only ones you need to enter for a site (Minus the "c"). All of the frequency information is carried on the control channel. Are you using programming software? If you are, please attach your programming file so we can take a look at it. You will need to zip the file to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and open the zipped file. Which systems are you trying to receive? The PA statewide trunked system is P25 Phase 2. The WS1040 is capable of decoding P25 Phase 1 only.

I am using arc500 software to program my ws1040. The shaded frquencies are when I connect to rr. I believe the shaded means that the ws1040 will not support that frequency as they are either dmr or P25 phase 2 or any other frequency that the 1040 does not support. I am fairly new to this but I want to thank those that have responded.

I use ARC500 to do my programming also. As cubn stated, an entry in the database will have a yellow background if updated in the past week. It will have a green background if updated in the last 24 hours. Do you see the colors when you look at the database or when you are downloading from the database? If you attach your ARC500 .gr5 file, I will be able to look at it and tell if your scanner is capable of receiving the systems and conventional frequencies.

You will not be able to receive the Allegheny County trunked system. It is P25 Phase 2 (T in Mode column). The WS1040 is capable of Phase 1 only (D in Mode column). The county jail talkgroups are fully encrypted (TE in Mode column) and cannot be received by any scanner.

You will need a P25 Phase 2 capable scanner to receive the Pittsburgh City Services talkgroups.

You will not be able to receive the 443.6 MHz amateur frequency. It is NXDN. The WS1040 is not capable of DMR or NXDN.
