• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Got a Big Stick but its not working. It has a very high SWR(4). Is there a way to test the antenna. NO connection at the base of the antenna at the coax connector from ground of connector to center pin. is this the way it should be. Is there a way to fix it. Is there a way to get inside the antenna? What readings should I get from treads to center pin of antenna? How else should it tested? Any info would be great! Thanks Ron

I took the Big Stick down to do some checking. There is no connection from the screw on the plug section to the center pin. I guess this is good! I checked the screw connection to the metal joint in between the two main sections and it is connected to the screw section which is a ground. Which means the top section screws into the ground section. I don't think this is good. I think the top section should go into the bottom but connect to the center pin but NG. Any thought before I cut into the lower section more. Thanks Ron

I would start with something simple first, like the coax connection part.Which I think on that antenna is a SO-239,is it lose? You said it was a old one,is it a army big stick? Is it in good shape?

Do yourself a favor dump the old beat up antenna [30+ years is too old] get a good Antron 99 and you'll be fine.

Hello Ron: If possible try another older Shakespeare base assembly, they have been know to go bad for what ever reason. I never wanted to saw one open to have all there as the massive fiberglass dust it would generate.

Please let us know what you find if you can fix the Sharespeare Fiberglass Antenna.

Thanks

Jay in the Great Mojave Desert, .... just down the road ah ways from the fillin station

Its an old one 1977. will chech the coax connector on the antenna. Ron

I know this is a few years late but a Big Stick will read around 10,000 ohms on a Digital Multimeter. I have one that reads 10,600 ohms and has a vswr of 1:1.5 on the 11 meter band.
