Can anybody explain to me why the patch to Shawnee PD has suddenly become active the last day or so on the Oklahoma City site of the DPS Statewide system?

I'm guessing that when I hear the Tulsa Co. SO. or the Tulsa Life Flight helicopter, it means that a radio for one of those agencies has ventured into the coverage area of the OKC site and their radio traffic is following them. Since the Shawnee PD is patched to the DPS system, I wouldn't think that their radio traffic would follow them around on the DPS system.

Nonetheless, it is the first time that I have heard Shawnee PD traffic on the OKC site since I started listening a few months ago.

It could be that they're testing interoperability between the systems... or they could be having problems with the system...

Someone has a radio that is listening to the Shawnee PD channel on this site. Once that radio is turned off or moves to a different site, the Shawnee PD talk group will no longer be broadcast on the site. If someone has Trunker, they should see the radio that is on that channel affiliating with the site every few hours.

Thanks for the responses guys. Doofus me, it never crossed my mind that on OHP trooper, for instance, listening to the Shawnee PD patch in OKC would have the same result as a Shawnee PD unit crossing into the OKC site if Shawnee were integrated instead of patched.

Actually, you'll hear Norman and Shawnee on a regular basis...have for a couple years now. You probably just haven't caught them talking. These are patches to the Norman, Shawnee, and Edmond PD dispatch channels. At least it is supposed to be. In the case of Edmond, you'll likely hear engineering instead of PD dispatch.

That's why I was so curious about Shawnee. I have heard Norman and Edmond continuously and have them locked out when searching the the OKC site. Then I wake up one morning and Shawnee traffic is literally monopolizing the radio. I now realize that if a radio on the OKC site is switched to a talkgroup for an agency, whether they are patched or integrated, their audio will be present on the OKC site.
