*** NOTE: I am not associated with Shelby Hamfest or hamclub in any way; I am just a casual attendee that has been going every year since I was a teenager.

The Shelby Hamfest isn't as good as years in the past.

To many craft vendors and political garbage being allowed to set-up.

I remember when I first started going it was acres of good ole fashion radio enthusiast sell radio equipment and stuff.

The Charlotte Hamfest was he same way in Concord last spring. Too many non radio sellers selling other stuff.

To me the price to get in is outrageous as well.

I think the last time I was there was 1989......they were great back then....computer and ham stuff galore! Think I bought a scanner there and I still use it for aircraft!

Sad to hear your comment......

Hopefully.....things will improve

Me personally I liked it better when they had it at the park in Dallas that one year.

With the way the radios are today and many agencies jumping on the band wagon to go trunking.

The older radios out there are slowly becoming collector items.

Just like me I love the older Motorola Radios. HT-220, MT-500 and the other older crystal controlled radios. They were a lot easier to work on unlike the newer surface mount component radios.

Me I am still looking for older MT-500 channel elements and can't seem to find them anywhere, especially on frequencies I need.

I miss old Pat Clawson with Paramount Communications. That guy had all the neat older radio accessories but I haven't seen him in years he may be dead for all I know.

Bomar stopped re-crystal work and ICM went out of business.

I used to do to the one in Raleigh, Greensboro and Winston Salem, and Salisbury.
