Is Sheldon NWR headquartered in Oregon?

Anybody know the Frequencies for Sheldon NWR, and possibly Black Rock Desert?

Thanks for the replies. It kooks like Sheldon and Hart are jointly administered. The complex covers three states. There is some info in the Oregon database - but not really clear how the system works.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall any unit of the Nevada State Parks agency located in the northwest part of the state. I don't know if they have a presence at Burning Man, but god knows all the other federal natural resource agencies send officers there to help the BLM.

I seem to remember that the Sheldon-Hart NWR radio system has multi-cast repeaters so that no matter where you are you hear the traffic transmitted on any one of the repeaters. I don't know for sure if the Sheldon folks hear the Hart folks traffic, but I think they do. Lakeview hears it all, of course. Some people call multicasting, simulcasting, but that is not accurate. Simulcasting involves multiple repeaters on the same frequency transmitting simultaneously. Multi-casting involves repeaters on different frequencies transmitting the same signal at the same time.

The Refuge HQ for the Sheldon NWR is remote. It's one of those places you might want to transfer to when you are young and single. You would have to have married a saint of a wife to live there married, unless you are a dual career (both with the USFWS) couple. Having to drive more than 50 miles for gas, lettuce, milk and eggs can seem tough after a few years. It requires a level of planning most of us don't have to worry about. We had to drive 65 miles to a full sized grocery store at one time, we had a big freezer. We could get gas, milk, lettuce and eggs in town however. You learn to freeze some things you have never frozen before though.

Generally, only BLM & NWR officers are up that far...So it might be days between seeing LEO presence or hours depending on where they are. Then again, when I have camped up there I've gone from seeing a BLM officer nightly to not seeing one the whole time I'm up there.

I am pretty certain they are multi-cast. There was never enough traffic on them for me to tell when I was there.

OK, so Sheldon is in Nevada and Hart is in Oregon and California and both appear to be dispatched out of the Lakeview OR consolidated radio room. What I ascertain from the database, is both refuges use repeaters in Oregon and Nevada. I'm not sure if the California portion of Hart has any repeaters.

I submitted an update for the Nevada database, but it may be wise to have the data coordinated between all three states. I'm not sure if the database administrators would allow for that.

I can confirm Nevada State Parks has no facilities in the far north of Washoe County.

Again, thanks to all for the responses.

How did you know? You must have a good memory, or at least one better than mine!

We went every 5 weeks to Gardnerville, NV. In that store you could tell who lived a long distance away. They would go out into the car to get their 75 quart coolers out to put the refrigerated products in it at the check stand. No use having the store bag something you are going to unbag to put in the cooler a couple hundred feet or less from the check stand. We weren't the only ones doing that either.

Folks should do a Google Earth search for the Sheldon NWR headquarters. To say it is less than esthetically pleasing is an understatement. I think gas and groceries might be more than 50 miles from it. I've lived in a couple of USFS ranger station housing areas. We had paving and landscaping along with great views. Sunsets, however, did not pay the rent.

Sometimes I've done that by accident (from a cardboard jug) and the stuff that pours out is gross. We still freeze milk even though the grocery store is 0.4 miles away. If we get low and there are a lot of snowstorms coming in back to back, we don't want to leave the house to shop.

I worked 28 days on, 7 days off(worked as much as I could, 351 days in 2000), we made groceries every 14 days via crew change. So we froze allot of milk, sucks whem someone drinks all the good stuff from a half thawed jug. Luckily I was raised with powder milk, grandparents bought in drums lol, so I'd always ordered a few boxes, no one would drink it 🤣😅
We'd load up on ice-cream, trade with shrimp boats 😉

I'm guessing you don't remember, but I was the guy who lived in Bridgeport and worked for MCSD, just about 20 years ago.

Yes, we went to WalMart in Carson or (Smith's?) in Gardnerville, usually stopping at that Basque restaurant in Walker on the way north.

I too remember loading the big coolers and freezer bags in the truck before heading out, and having more than one person give me a 5-gallon gas can and few bucks to fill it, as Bridgeport was running over 5 bucks a gallon even back then.

If you knew people up that way, I was the guy who bought the BFD Dodge Ram Charger from Booher and left it in front of Buster's Market when the engine threw something and promptly flung a cloud of metal out of the tailpipe :ROFLMAO:
