Having shipping radios and other equipment to Canada several times, I can tell you that the USPS will always always always be significantly cheaper than any UPS or Fedex service.

The only advantage that the private shippers have is that they can a signature for the item when it arrives--which is basically your proof that you fulfilled the terms of your transaction. For USPS parcel post, you can't get delivery confirmation or a signature, so you're taking a bit of a risk.

I've never had a shipping problem to Canada, other than the fact that it does a long time for packages to arrive because customs usually opens the box to inspect the contents and it may hang around there for a week or two until they finally send it out.

My other recent big-item shipping recently was sending my Drake R-8 to France. Talk about having no idea whether it would arrive or not. Shipping costs even via USPS international were astronomical, but the buyer paid it (you can bet that I threw a bid of overhead for the worry and trouble), and it did arrive a week later.

Also, depending on which level of service, UPS and Fedex will charge a ridiculous "brokerage fee" to Canada. USPS is your best bet to Canada
