It's an annual event. Bikers, both gang members and regular folks, from all over the country attend. Used to see quite a few wearing colors pass thru the airport.

I would venture to guess this event was terribly planned with terrible security and bad to non-existent pre-event planning/coordination. If they had Argus staff with nothing but binoculars and radios assigned to tactical security posts throughout the building, you wonder if they might have noticed a few clues before the shooting started.

Throughout all the crazy radio traffic this afternoon, I don't believe I heard one single reference to DPD communicating with event security staff, or anyone else associated with the event, which seems pretty unusual for large events like this. I got the impression DPD had no help whatsoever from the event organizers, that might explain why they ordered part of it shut down for tomorrow (putting aside the desire to avoid a riot).

I don't think it's poorly planned - they've had this event annually for several years. They've always had several cops working off-duty as well because of the number of outlaw bikers that attend from all over the world. For instance, during my time at the airport, I saw Hell Angels from Europe coming through. I think this fight took them by surprise because it happened in kind of an out-of-the-way area of the venue that wasn't patrolled regularly.
Don't believe much of anything in that Post article, by the way. Nothing but self-serving versions of events. And the Iron Order is definitely not a "cop club." They may have a few members that are or were cops, but it's by no means the majority of members....not even close.

Apparently the event organizer will be on the Peter Boyles show tomorrow morning. Also, the following photo surfaced, allegedly taken shortly before the shots were fired. Based on the photo, I gather both "sides" will contend they were afraid of being attacked by a big crowd of adverse parties', and hence went for their weapons.

In any event, what idiot took this picture? If you've got someone with a gun drawn 10 feet in front of you with a large crowd behind them and the possibility of an imminent violent fight, riot and/or shootout about to happen, you're first reaction is to stand in the middle of the firing line and take photos? Seriously??

I can already hear the defense lawyers for BOTH "sides": "Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, the judge just finished reading those crucial instructions you will take back to the jury room. The most important instruction concerns REASONABLE DOUBT. If you look at these photographs, and put yourself in his shoes, it is obvious anyone in their right mind would reasonably believe a violent confrontation was imminent. Of course, you've heard many, many, many witnesses with conflicting accounts, differing views of what transpired, differing opinions about motivations, reputations, and who hit the first punch and so forth.

After hearing all the testimony over the last month, the only thing we know for sure, is nobody really knows happened that tragic night..."
