BRIGHTON, Colo. -- Police are investigating the motive behind a shooting inside a farmhouse that left one woman dead.

Witnesses said that the shooting occurred at about 9:45 a.m. over an argument.

A woman in her 20s was killed. A man has been taken into police custody. Neither have been identified.

The owner of the property in unincorporated Adams County said that he believes that the shooting involves a group of renters who has been there for only two or three months.

Neighbors said there has been a lot of activity in this area in recent months.

Two Adams County Crime Lab trucks arrived at the home, located on East 144th Avenue, just after 11 a.m. and remain at the scene.

On Monday, October 23, 2006, at about 9:45 a.m., Adams County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of shots fired at 15650 E. 144th Avenue, Brighton, Colorado. When deputies arrived, they found a white female later identified as 21-year-old Laura Janz of Brighton, Colorado with a fatal wound to her chest. They also contacted the male suspect, 23-year-old Antonio Oakle Diaz of Brighton, Colorado at the same location, who was taken into custody.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the two individuals, who had been dating, may have been engaged in an argument when the shooting occurred. After the victim had been wounded, 911 was called. Particulars or specific details about this incident will not be released to ensure the integrity of the criminal case. Antonio Oakle Diaz was taken into custody without any further incident.

This is an active and on-going investigation and Adams County Detectives are investigating this incident. Antonio Oakle Diaz was transported to the Adams County Jail, where he is being held for First Degree Murder and Domestic Violence.
