Just bought a DX-394 from eBay. Any suggestions on either an indoor or outdoor antenna?
Thanks

Hmmm....reviews say it is a sensitive receiver, almost too sensitive. So 25-30ft of wire outside as high as possible fed with RG58 coax to the SO239 on the back. Indoor antennas used to be decent performers, but with modern electronics, sure is a lot of RFI about! Trust me, I know!

You can use WWV at 10mhz for testing the effectiveness of whatever antenna you choose.

HAVE FUN...

Really there's nowhere near any good information on your situation. As implied above something outside and away from the home is best, but not everyone can do that. Can you put something up outside without getting into trouble from say a HOA or Association? How much room have you got to play with? What is your budget like? Do you know how to solder and use small hand tools? All of these play into the decision.

I have many birds in my yard both large and small, that’s why I was wondering if the birds could damage the wire

The slack in your wire should prevent that, unless you're using "Angel Hair" which is 31awg, solid strand copper, which is used in winding relays and small transformers.
