DETROIT (WXYZ) - The search is on for a gunman who fired shots at police officers after being pulled over for a traffic violation.

It happened near the Lodge Freeway and Eight Mile Road.

When Southfield police officers pulled the man over, he got out of the car and fired several rounds at police as he ran off.

Officers returned fire on the man. It is not clear if the suspect was hit.

Police have identified the suspect as 20-year-old Savion Akeem Franklin. He was last seen wearing black pants, a black jacket, black hat and white tennis shoes. He is considered armed and dangerous.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white 4-door car with Michigan license number 8GDA62.

No officers were injured in the shooting. Southfield Police are being assisted in the search by Detroit Police, Michigan State Police and the Oakland County Sheriff's Department.

Police officers are now searching a 20-block area east from Tracey street between 7 Mile and Pembroke.
