Should i buy a scanner?

Hi, Im in monroe county ny. Have been listening to Public safty Feed (my god son just became a RPD cop). Enjoy the feeds immensley. Should i buy a radio shack pro-2096 digital scanner (will i hear more conversation car to car) or should i as a novice just stay here becouse progamming scanner would be to compicated and i would NOT hear anymore police calls OR chater then these feed anyways? ...Thanks for info, Andy

radio-shack 2096..is it good scanner for new person to hobby? what is difficulty level to programing it? thanks
