SHOULD I GET A DIGITAL SCANNER ??

Is it worty buying the pro-96 for Ohio Im in fairfield county just south of columbus in Lancaster. Am I missing anything on the MARCS system ?? Also is MARC coverage good on the pro-96 in the area I live in ?

:shock: I don't know how it is in Ohio, but I will tell you what. I live in Utah and our police agencies are on the 800 system so I wen out and bought a Pro-96. I have quite a few police officer friends and obtained a few of the SWAT "super secret" digital channels and even they were amazed that i was able to scan those channels. Best envestment i have made yet, well worth it I think.

I have not had the opportunity to monitor MARCS either, but having monitored Indiana Safe-T, which appears to be similar to MARCS, and MPSCS in Michigan, you will slowly find more and more stuff migrating to it, so you will gradually hear less and less with an analog scanner. The other thing to consider it that you will learn quite a bit about an agency's setup right when they switch and are learning about the system. You may also have a better opportunity to hear seldom used talkgroups then as well.

My advice is to get a digital scanner!! A couple months ago I bought a bc250d!! Not knowing completely how to set it up properly as of yet (lack of time) but even so it was well worth the money!! OSP is totally out of the question without one, and its like said above, more and more are changing to it!! And the way the osp repeaters are set up Ive been sitting in Delaware and have heard ops going down in Waverly by the cia or the fbi, not sure!! But they were ordering around osp units at there will!!

Ohio is a tech rich state and if you want to keep up its gonna cost!!

Do u think more counties will go apco digital insted of open syk in Ohio since OSP is apco 25 ??

The osp traffic is already encrypted when they choose, but most the time it isnt. They are also rotating freqs and control channels constantly!! And have seen Licking county (I think) go digital in the 154-155 band area!! But havent heard them go encrypted as of yet!! I too am new to this digital erra after being out of it, well since I lost the osp yrs ago on my old equipment!!
