I'm considering getting a bcd436 but I've heard not such great things about them. I do like all the systems it covers but people say there a lot of problems with the radio. Is there another choice? Any opinion?.
If you are interested in DMR or NXDN, these are significant points. These are additional charges from Uniden, but built into the price at Whistler. One more thing,
Uniden has made no announcement about NXDN to this point. Whistler has announced they will release NXDN for their TRX 1 and TRX 2 radios at no additional cost, by the end of the year.
If you already have a 436, I'd say go for the HP2.I got mine in 2014 in may. I have yet to have any issues. I be getting another scanner next year as my County will be switching to 700mhz p25II system. Once that happens my feed scanner and spare become obsolete. I am not sure what I am getting but a second bcd436hp is not out of questions, but the home patrol 2 is also a chose and was not option when I got my bcd436hp
If you already have a 436, I'd say go for the HP2.

...Have an HP1 and two HP2's. Have always loved the screen. It's the best, most readable screen out there. Have phase 2 in the area and the HP2, with the same audio codec or processor as the 436, does a good job.
The HP2 never having a single firmware upgrade since introduced is also good testimony to no issues.
The search and discovery options are also much better on the HP1 and HP2 than the x36 radios. And the other features of the extreme upgrade are very useable, especially for antenna orientation or selection...
