Hey , I haven't been to active in the hobby last few years so I'm not up
on all the latest, so thought I'd ask for advice here ,I have numerous
scanners & other than listening to local Windsor trunked services whereI
live ,I havent been all that active since about the time the opp
switched to the new system , was looking at the BC246t & I'm very
attracted to it,I think I would even use it more due to its size &
featues like close call than my old 200xlt ,but I have also heard
there is a digital version coming out maybe in the fall So my question
is , Is it going to be better to wait for the digital version ?
This decision would depend on a few factors , a main one would be if &
when City of Windsor trunked services plan on going digital & then
when most other areas and services elsewhere switch , from what I
understand
in southern Ontario the OPP is the only thing that has really switched
over , & although I used to listen to OPP when camping at the Pinery
I'm not paying the thousand bux or so just to hear OPP If no one else
is gonna sitch to digital for a while I can live with that,Now many
places havent even had the trunked systems all that long & I dont know
how much it costs to switch from trunked to digital but I'm betting
that unless the govt pays for it , most citys wont see the need to go
from trunked to digital all that soon. So I should get at least what ,
maybe 5 + years or more before digital becomes common in city
services? This is what I need to know , what is the digital plan for
southern Ontario & how many cities & services will switch & when , I
mean if its gonna take several more years I'd prob get some good use
out of it ,but I dont want to waste my money & be stuck later on either.
If I wait & keep saving I might actually be able to afford it when the new one comes out .(lemme guess it will be at least 1200 bux canadian) ....which is probably the smarter thing to do I would guess
