I currently own a BC235XLT, and I would like to upgrade to a 246T. I have read that the 246T does not scan military air traffic? Will the 246 scan regular aircraft bands? (i.e. 119.000).

Thanks,

Andy

Yes it will scan "regular aircraft bands". You will be like a little kids at Christmas going from the 235 to the 246!!!

I would upgrade in a heartbeat! (Unless you've got a lot of digital in your area, then maybe wait for the new 396T handheld.)

Compared to what else is out there in the ~$200 price range, the 246T can't be beat. Plus, it runs on good ol' AA batteries. :D

Thanks for all of your replies! I just have to wait a little while, the local ham shop by me has a waiting list of 4 people ahead of me. I just do not want to order online.

thanks again!

The BC246T is an excellent choice if you don't need digital. My only complaint is that it doesn't have 'knock you out of your seat' audio, but that's a compromise of the small size.

Its kind of sad but my trusty BC245xlt has sat unused since my 246T arrived. Both are great, the '6T is just way better.

Yep, I sold my 250D (without card) after having my 246 for a couple of weeks and the 250D was laying all alone in the drawer.

Must say I upgraded from a 245xlt bought when new in 1999, does the same stuff in a neater package, and has lots of nice bells and whistles. Have also heard I could sell my 245xlt for half the price of a 246t... hmm, halfway to a second 246t?? or save for the 396d???

I hear ya! My wife thinks I'm an idiot, my friends ask alot of questions about it, Just got one of them talked into buying a Pro 2051, and another wanting a 246T.
