Is there a way to shut off the tones fire departments use to dispatch rigs? I am using a 296D. The wife does not like to hear the tones all the time?

Thanks

Either turn off the scanner or turn off the wife.

Turning off the wife wouldn't help unless she left the room.

Maybe turning her ON might help ease the aversion.

Your only hope is that IF (very slim chance) they set the system up right and turn off any CTCSS/CDCSS when transmitting the paging tones, you could program in the CTCSS/CDCSS they use and keep from hearing them. BUT, very few systems are set up that way. Most just transmit the tones with the CTCSS/CDCSS still encoding.
