Well I have been waiting everything to slow down, thinking that the turnaround time would not be as long, and sent my 396 back to Uniden Tuesday. Looks like my timing was great. With Hurricane Rita headed toward Texas I am worried that I should have waited longer. That is my luck though. I slipped a note in as well asking Uniden to check the VHF and UHF range, don't know if they will but the sensitivity is not to par with my 246 or 780XLT.
Think I could run down the FedEx truck before it gets to far Down the road?

Looks like it will be east of us here in Dallas-Fort Worth. Latest forecast for us is maybe 20-25 mph wind Sat. night and Sunday, some rain. That's a far cry from the prediction a couple of days ago when they were saying it could come right through the mid-cities, with up to 60mph winds still hanging.

Not that we couldn't used the rain, but it appears to be going in around Beaumont, then up through Lufkin, sideswiping Tyler (over 100 miles east of us). Of course, we've already got the 'wind', what with all the local politicians yakking & patting themselves on the back on how they are handling things 'right'.

They aren't taking credit for keeping the hurricane out of your immediate area, yet?

How did everyone pack thier bcd396t for shipping. I myself placed the scanner in a newspaper plastic bag and put them inside a ziplock freezer bag. Modified a box and had a very snug fit when packing finalized.

How to Check Status

Well, uniden has had my 396T for a few days now and I still can not check the SRO number to see the status. Has anyone else had a problem checking this online?

Any Suggestions

They change the SRO number when they accept the scanner. when they computerieze track it you should get the repair SRO number notified by the e-mail adress given. No word on mine there since the 20th. I imagine the hurricane condotions? Oh well.

Yep I worked in the shipping department at the local warehouse when i was in highschool. They claimed at the time very creative with my shipping packing boxes. This package sent was tightly packed...tested it myself. Should have it by Halloween..need it for that holiday. All in all the scanner was great. Whats this day 4 for me.

I put mine in the cardboard box it came in (the inner one). I put that box in a plain shipping carton that I cut down to fit the inside box tightly. I sealed the outer box with transparent shipping tape.

They got mine on the 19th. Today was the first time I checked - with phone number and zip code. It was there - but scheduled to be shipped back on 10/10!?!?!? THREE WEEKS in repair? I hope they're just being cautious in their estimate.

Mine arrived on the 9/12 and it didn't get logged in until 9/19 and was shipped on 9/23 and scheduled to arrived 10/3. So three weeks looks about right. This doesn't count that I acutally shipped it on the 8/29 and it sat for a week in the Fedex depot.
