My Uniden 996P2 wasn't receiving any talk groups & I thought I was broken so I was ready to order a new one @ Amazon. I tread everything think I could think of, including the reset code, 2,9, hold & turn un. Then I turned down the sequel & presto, problem solved. WHO KNEW!? Go ahead, make fun at me!

I still would not expect miracles on that system with that scanner though, due to the often discussed simulcast distortion issue. Hopefully you're in a spot that is only receiving one of the towers on whichever zone you're monitoring, which may minimize the issue. If so you're one of the fortunate ones.

In most cases all of that run of similar scanners from the BCT15 to the BCD996P2 can normally be run with squelch turned down to 02.

I have no reception problems. I'm in East Providence & only monitor EP & Providence. Also TG's 2,3 4, &5. I've lockout out everything else.

years ago, and still, i was the only one to handle my 396T.
i am well aware of how to handle it and how i handle it.
and like you said. one day it was REALLY quiet.
i took it out and checked the squelch.
it was on 15.
i always set it at 2, so that is quite the jump.
it has not happened again.
for many decades i have said...
"if you computerize something, it can think for itself"

and i have asked many here what their squelch setting is and a handful have said too high.
you are not alone !

I wouldn't feel so bad one time I went all day not hearing anything then I discovered the coax antenna wire was loose on the back of scanner OOPS!

I have a 325P2. I like it, but every couple of weeks I hit the key combination that allows me to adjust squelch. I do that by accident and after an hour or so of no signal, I look and see that the squelch is set to 18. I could be sitting on top of a radio tower and wouldn't get any signals with that setting.

So, no I'm not laughing at you. I find the sweet sport with my 325P2, SDS100, 536HP, and SDS200 is "2." Any higher and reception suffers. Of course with three different styles of controlling squelch and volume I frequently end up over squelching.
