I heard from a few admins from Seminole county that they are upgrading to APX nexts and encrypting all their talkgroups even fire.
I don’t know how this would work on the Orange County system 46C for their patient transport to Seminole county.
If anyone has more info pls let me know thx

Well, that would be a shame. I will have to accelerate my plans for my police radio proximity detector. Edit: I just checked county procurement and my local city. The only active contract is the SUA for the System until 2030. Nobody is buying a bunch of radios from what I see.

What’s a SUA contract?

The majority in FL are purchasing via a nationwide NASPO contract and not directly with manufacturers.

One could probably use creative writing 101 to get 20% off list for Motorola or 27% off list for L3 as additional infrastructure items and $100+ per hour, per person for integration. but it doesn't specifically state KMF in the contract.

How do I find the info about Seminole county’s contracts and encryption contracts? So I definitely know. I’m in process of paying for an apx8000 and concerned because I already have 2 apx6000s and an apx7000xe

you do realize that if they can program multiple systems in a radio. Once can be encrypted and the other system can be set to no encryption.

SA = Service agreement SUA = Software Upgrade Agreement. I conflated the two. Who would have thought software was so persnickety that Motorola needs to be paid around 2 million a year to keep the radio waves modulating?

Undoubtedly it will be buried in some mishmash of weasel wording.

UPDATE

they are 1000% encrypting this end of 2024
It is because when they bought the new radios they got discount for using encryption and it saves the county money, this has nothing to do with saftey, just money.

That makes no sense. Your source of this information? There is no discount for using encryption. There are federal grants for P25 but in reality only the basic P25 feature required for the grants, and hardly a discount in any sense.

Talked to an officer who’s close with the radio tech and a friend of mine

If they are using it, the NASPO contract provides an across the board 27% discount for the radios + options, including single key AES, so I can see where they think that they are getting a discount if they are buying it with the intention of using it but there is no unique cost savings.
