I have been thinking about getting a second scanner that I could commit to a couple of simple roles:

1. Scanning 1 channel on a system to either ID unknown TGID's or to follow entire incidents.

2. Setting up a Unitrunker type program to monitor hits on sites.

3. Possibly setting it to record transmission when using it for item #1.

Naturally I would like to keep it cheap but want it to be useful after Rebanding. I know I will need to enlist some help from N7LOQ with installation of the data slicer, taps etc... maybe a audio out port for the record? (If someone would just make a card you could pop in the back of your computer it would be easier! Uniden it's the 21st Century get a clue.)

Would look like the BCT-8 might be the best way to go. Priced around $175-$188 supports rebanding. Would think that a slicer and tap can be added easily enough.

Anyone have any input?

Looked at that WinRadio stuff nice but very pricey! The BCT-15 and BC898T would be nice too but there is a price jump of $50+.

I was leaning towards a PRO-97. I've had one for a couple of years now, and I really like the close call feature. And there is a slicer mod out there for it. How-ever, after looking at the info on the BCT-8, I am curious. I really like the Control Channel feature that the Unidens have. The price is right, but I haven't found anything about a slicer for the -8. I don't know about rebanding the -8, and I have read that the -97 can be used after rebanding by entering the base and channel info for the system. I wonder what computer programs are out there for controling these. I have been useing Scancat to control my radios, and I do like it. But it seems that Jim is devoting more time to the lite version and not upgrading the SE version that i have.

What has kept me from considering the RS family is that according to the Wiki pages most of their products will not support rebanding.

As the majority of the Uniden Trunk Tracker will

Although I have yet to get a response from N7LOQ he provides all the other necessary slicer and tap services and is local, prices are not bad from what I can tell either. Just wanting his input on which is easier for him to work on etc.

So those are my thoughts on the Uniden products. Price wise they are both real close but they use the old bank type memory that I am not familiar with. I like the new Uniden Dynamically Allocated Channel Memory. My BC246T has that and it is real simple to use, lets you make each system as big as you want, up to 200 channels. I have all of SL Valley, airport, SL City, Utah, Davis, Tooele Counties and some of Box Elder and only have used like 72% of the total memory.

Appreciate your thoughts gives me more to consider. Thanks
