thanks for the update! I don't understand all this stuff, I'm still receiving normal traffic from Peterson AFB and T-Gap at the moment. Have they not actually switched on the Simulcast functionality? thanks :)

My guess is that those two locations have their old and new sites online simultaneously at the same location while they get the simulcast site up and running. Airport is a special case where they built a brand new tower near the old one, so they probably have new and duplicated equipment that allows them to keep that specific site online. Not sure if the same is true for T-Gap.

I would think that those sites will be taken offline soon once the simulcast is fully functioning.

Airport and T-Gap ASR sites are now down, along with Cedar Heights ASR. Cell consists of Stanley, T-Gap, Airport, Austin Bluffs, and Cedar Heights... Ski Summit tomorrow!

Appreciate the information! Sounds like things are going pretty well with the transition. Hopefully scanners aren't going to be too negatively affected by the new site.

Spitfire, If I understand this, this simulcast site will be a new site with a different control channel with a combination frequencies from the current sites.

As of this moment in my inside the city limits location, all I receive is the Stanley Canyon site with its 853.7125 control channel. Reception has been not like it was last week before they started this transformation.

That is correct for the most part. In this case, the primary control channel is the same as what it was for Stanley Canyon.

Unfortunately, I do expect most people using a scanner to run into simulcast distortion issues. There is no scanner today that has been properly designed to handle a simulcast system. Uniden has made a claim that their unreleased SDS100 will be able to handle these systems correctly, but I would absolutely wait for others to verify that before committing to it.

Any chance of Uniden putting out a firmware update to over come "distortion"?

Sometimes transmissions are fine. Others are not so fine.

Nope. It is a problem with the hardware inside the scanner and cannot be fixed with a firmware update.

Looks like they've all changed over, scanner is quiet. Any chance of updating the DB, today(thur)?

I'm holding off on a DB submission for everything to get completely settled so that everything can get taken care of in a single submission. Right now I'm a bit confused as to why the new site is identifying Airport as still being online as a neighboring site when it was taken offline yesterday.

Understandable. Now that you mention it, I turned on my HomePatrol and am receiving normal traffic from the airport site.

I fired up my old 396T, 296s and 796s and they are receiving the El Paso County and Colorado Springs talk groups on the Stanley Canyon site loud and clear like the newer ones were before until this transformation!

Haven't given up on my 396XT,996XT and 996P2 yet,

Any suggestions for the newer radios would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Simulcast distortion

How is everyone's reception today now that all six sites listed above have been assimilated into the one simulcast site 28?

Still good? Any distortion?

Some luck with a paper clip

Paper clip antenna is allowing me to receive here and there. I am still picking up the Airport site on its own. I'm closest to this site, I can receive it with no antenna. Hoping it helps on the simulcast side. When is it switching? Thanks for all the info ... For now I'm monitoring Fountain Valley, even getting north side units

The switch has already happened. Whether there will be any more changes remains to be seen. Spitfire said he will submit the new system to RR soon. Thank you Sptifire.

I am hearing talk groups I had never heard before this week because of only 1 control channel to monitor. Before I had 2 -3 towers scanning because some of my talk groups used a different tower other than Stanley Canyon.

I reconfigured my systems and reprogrammed those radios with a single tower. Much better reception now.

This is definitely a work in progress to rewrite all my systems.

Reception Report

My BCD436HP and BCD996T have gone deaf during the day the last two days. I'm close to Powers and North Carefree. I have the Colorado Springs Airport tower loaded into my units. Last night and tonight after 6:00 pm the radios suddenly jump back to life. I haven't had to do anything with them. Thank you Spitfire for your very informative posts. This is all way over my head. I was at Millennial Electronics buying some antenna fixings and had a good conversation Aron about the Simulcast changes. I'm looking forward to the updated DB and some good instructions on what needs to be done if anything to continue to receive the DTRS. Happy scanning everyone and stay safe!

I'm also at Powers and Carefree. Still receiving from Airport and Fountain Valley. Not so much on the simulcast. I wonder how long Airport will be active separate from Simulcast. I'm going to put together a corner reflector tomorrow and give it a try.

This setup by my window with a rubber ducky is working great right now

Reception Report - Update

Thank you Spitfire for uploading the Simulcast into the DB.

Having said that, unfortunately my radios even with outdoor antennas have always had a hard time hearing Stanley Canyon....

Both radios are deaf to the new simulcast tower.

I'm glad that the Airport tower is up and working :)

Anyone having better results than me?

I found the perfect spot literally in the window. Move it an inch to the sil, nothing.
