Good evening everyone...

Just a quick ? for those who know more...

Why do some RWC items transmit on more Simulcast stations than others?

For instance...

Scottsdale PD: North Simulcasts on Thompson Peak, but South does not.
El Mirage PD: Seems to simulcast only on West Valley
Mesa, Tempe, etc. only seem to simulcast on their respective stations.

Just curious on why stuff like MCSO, PPD, PFD, etc. will hit other simulcasts than what they are labeled as, and others don't.

Like where I moved to in N. Phoenix / Norterra area, I get a lot of the PD's on "Phoenix PD Simulcast A" (Glendale, Surprise, Tolleson, etc.), but others like Scottsdale, El Mirage, etc. don't.

Hopefully that question makes sense to everyone.

Thanks!

Only Phoenix PD should be on Simulcast A. You may hear Glendale PD South, Paradise Valley PD and other Central & West Valley PD's on Simulcast B, however.

It all comes down to what agency needs what coverage in the Valley. Glendale PD may have found that their South channel needs coverage help from Simulcast B because Simulcast G doesn't quite cover the south side of the city with the consistency that they want for officer safety, particularly with handheld radios. But Simulcast G works just fine for their North channel coverage needs.

Simulcast H may have some dead spots in far north Scottsdale, where Thompson Peak provides coverage, again, particularly for handhelds.

Maricopa County's trunked system is completely separate from the RWC or TOPAZ RWC, and except for the Interoperability G/H/I/O decks that every public safety agency in the county has access to, you're not going to hear MCSO or any other county agency on any RWC/TRWC talkgroup for any municipality.

Thompson Pk for Scottsdale N was setup as a wide area talkgroup & to cover into Rio Verde.

Sim H has a high site in the farthest north end of Desert Mountain County Club. It blankets the whole N Scottsdale into Cave Creek & N Phoenix. Scottsdale PD A2 N used to be allowed on Far N Mtn. That allowance was pulled once Sim H was completed.

Sim G provides coverage into Lake Pleasant, the system also works into North Phoenix. They also have travel coverage along I17 from Anthem to Phoenix. Tolleson is on the Simulcast B/G why its on both. The west valley agencies like El Mirage have great coverage by Simulcast G into Phoenix to the jail.

If your having coverage issues, try buying a Unication.

It would be a waste of system resources to have say El Mirage PD transmit off of simulcast F in Tempe since there are no El Mirage radios in Tempe.

Funny you should use that analogy. I know of one EMPD mobile radio that is constantly in Tempe and Scottsdale.

More than a few Scottsdale cops live in Surprise, due to the cost of housing in the EV.
