Newbie question here... I live in an area outside (and over the mountain) from the greater Salt Lake area in Utah. I was wondering if a "simulcast" frequency (control channel) carries all Talk Groups in a state-wide system like UCAN
Utah Communications Agency Network (UCAN) System - UtahRadio .
In other words, could I listen to radio traffic 200 miles away in another county as long as I enter the corresponding TGID under a simulcast control channel? Or do the simulcast's only carry the radio traffic for the geographical area they cover? I hope I explained that in a way someone can understand my question. :-/ I would love to be able to hear the bigger cities when my smaller town is less active.
Second question...If I have programmed a trunked system into my scanner (from RR) but have not traveled to that area as of yet, would the scanner (PRO-164) not flash the "T" symbol until I have been in range of that systems control channel, or should the "T" be there on any PROPERLY programmed trunking system regardless if the radio has "picked-up" the control channel signal?
Thanks in advance for your help!
