I assume I am hearing simulcast distortion. It sounds like multiple units are stepping on the dispatcher.
If that is what I am hearing, is there any settings on the TRX-1 I can set to stop all this garble?
This is LAPD I am listening to.
Can someone explain what "Dwell Settings" are, and how to use it.
Thanks

Dwell will not improve your issue, it is the time the scanner waits on that site for control channel activity. Make sure only control chanells are programmed in, leave out all others frequencies for the system

Try moving the scanner as little as a inch, or turning the scanner sideways, or using a paperclip for a antenna, or locking out all sites except one, it should be one not right next door , you will have try until you find which site give you the best reception for you location.

Then move to DSP , ADC and DAC adjustments. just google them for info, many variables mean what works for one may not work for your location,

LAPD is conventional P25, so none of the trunking settings apply.

I don't believe they are simulcasting those conventional P25 repeaters, so most likely the issue is with the actual radios users, not your scanner.

That is not what simulcast distortion sounds like. With simulcast distortion you won't hear anything. That is, you may hear the beginning of a transmission then it will abruptly go silent. Or, you may not hear any of the transmission.

I take back part of my reply. LAPD is indeed simulcasting most of the P25 dispatch channels, which I wasn't certain of when I originally posted.

I was trying to see if they were a simulcast system but according to what I could find in the database, they didn't appear to be. I found:
Los Angeles City Police: Los Angeles County, California (CA) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference
Los Angeles Police Department: Los Angeles Police Department Trunking System, Los Angeles, California - Scanner Frequencies

None of them *appeared* to be simulcast. What am I missing?

Forget about that trunked system, 99% of LAPD is using conventional P25.

The conventional P25 channels are simulcast from multiple sites. Here is an explanation directly from their communications division:

Thanks for clarifying that.
I thought I was hearing simulcast.
