Reviewing my options for a good wide band antenna for my newly purchased Uniden BCD996P2. My focus will be aviation, rail, and common business traffic. Planning on mounting on the roof of my home about 17 feet above ground with a 8 foot extension pole on a J-Mount. I reside in a fairly dense urban setting. Any thoughts on these options would be great!

I have not had my hands on that particular Sirio Discone but I have several other Sirio antennas and think their quality is very good. They have actual engineers that know what they are doing on both the antenna theory and mechanical sides. I would consider a Sirio Discone if I were shopping for one.

Thanks for the feedback. I like what I am reading about the Sirio option. I live in Saint Paul, MN- so when I say dense I am speaking of an urban setting but nothing like NY/NJ, Chicago, or LA. Any thoughts on picking up general aviation with this option.

A discone antenna is low gain (0 db) would not be my first choice unless I really needed wide-band capability. The typical 25MHz-1.2GHZ discones do not perform well on the 700-800MHz range.
