Was doing some reading, and saw that on large trunk systems, some sites use a NAC to minimize interference from adjacent sites. (One of those "I didnt know that..." moments) I was looking through the site details of randomly picked sites and saw that Lookout has a NAC of D18, but didnt see any others showing NAC's in the notes. Is this usage common?

NAC's are useful for conventional monitoring like LAPD.

Unless someone is attempting to talk into a site NAC listings are not useful for trunking scanners.

How about with sites 418 Mt. Pittsburg and 420 Badger both on the same control channel 853.7375, and you get get them both from certain parts of the El Paso and Teller counties?

Couple of NACs

Site 420 Badger NAC is D14. Site 145 Badger NAC is D1D. Someone else will have to get Site 418.

Did some traveling through Denver and a little north, might as well add what I found. I also added the hex numbers for all the sites.

Site 101 (1) = NAC D11 - Arapahoe Admin/Denver Metro
Site 108 (8) = NAC D18 - Lookout Mtn/Denver Metro
Site 109 (9) = NAC D19 - DRDC CF/Denver Metro
Site 120 (14) = NAC D14 - DTB/Denver Metro
Site 147 (2F) = NAC D1F - ZAP/Denver Metro
Site 164 (40) = NAC D10 - Chevron/Denver Metro
Site 170 (46) = NAC D16 - Auraria Campus/Denver Metro
Site 313 (D) = NAC D1D - Buckhorn Mtn
Site 322 (16) = NAC D16 - Adams County Simulcast/Denver Metro
Site 355 (37) = NAC D17 - Ft. Lupton/Tri Area

And after looking at all these NAC's for all these sites, it looks like that pretty much every single site's NAC end number/letter is determined by the last character in the hex form of the site. That would mean Site 418 (12) Mt. Pittsburg has a NAC of D12 if the NAC's have been set uniformly.

The hex conversion thing is correct, but does not necessarily hold true for all sites (but will for most).

Have you ever seen a place in your scanner to enter a NAC for a trunked system?

Most scanners I know of don't use NAC's on trunked system so it would make little sense for the software developers to include this.

It's like an analog connect tone. It's in the database but no scanners use it at all.

I suppose where this would be most handy is if you are hearing a control channel and want to have another tool to determine which one it is if there is the possibility of receiving more than one site on the same frequency at your location. It would be interesting if the manufacturers incorporated the NAC so that you can ensure that it's the right system instead of just any system...
