Situation in Appomattox

Some kind of manhunt going on near Hwy 24 in Appomattox.

Tac Team is on scene and they have tracking dogs looking for a male suspect in relation to a shooting.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the believed murder-suicide in the same area from yesterday.

Looks like they got the suspect. 14 year old kid wanted for shooting his grandfather. Looks like his grandfather is at the hospital and will recover.

Are the Tac Team ops in the clear or encrypted?

Tac Teams on STARS are usually in the clear from what I have heard, but it seems to me that they only use STARS in order to communicate with each other while they are on the way to their staging area. After all of the team members get to the staging area I rarely hear anything on the Tac Team talkgroups. I would guess that they likely have small low-power tactical radios for communication at the site. They may use one or more of the non-STARS frequencies licensed to VSP, or some other one(s) we don't know about.
