I have installed an AllStar node #29867 on 52.550 MHz simplex in Georgetown, TX. If you are in central Texas, or already on AllStar anywhere, feel free to check it out.

The radio is a Kenwood TK-690H 100 watt mobile feeding a Kreco CO-36A shunt fed coaxial antenna. The Kenwood is connected via a Repeater-Builder USB RIM to a pc running XIPAR AllStar software under Linux OS.

Here is a coverage plot courtesy of Radio Mobile Online:

If you haven't heard of the AllStar Link Network, here is a great overview:

I currently have my node connected to node #2135, which is the Wide Area Network Repeater System, in order to give it a great stress test. Here is information on node #2135:
The Wide Area Network Repeater System - W3WAN

Long term I plan to connect it to other six meter simplex and repeater AllStar nodes.

I want to thank N3XCC, KE6IYC, WJ8G and W9SH for their help in getting my AllStar node on the air!

Six meters is a great band for ssb, cw, the digital modes AND FM! There is a good supply of clean used Kenwood, Midland and Motorola FM commercial radios available on eBay and from used equipment suppliers.

I hope you will give six FM and AllStar a try - 73!

You might want to review 97.201(b). I would hate to see someone stumble into trouble they didn't see coming.

Allstar, IRLP, Echolink and similar systems are considered an auxiliary station.

Not trying to start a huge argument or scold anyone. Just a heads up on what is likely an unintentional oversight.

While I am all for increasing activity on and awareness of the 6 meter band potentially getting into trouble is not the best way. Unfortunately in the Indianapolis area repeaters can't be found so as a result I have not played with that band since I moved out here nearly three years ago.
