So according to the news the police and fire in Saint John are going encrypted in the next year party over ? Does anyone know anymore about the system they will be using if there is any hope of listening in after the switch ?

Has not been confirmed, but heard reports NB is moving to a system very similar to NS, 700MHz Project 25 Phase 1. PEI is moving to a similar system by the end of this year. It's almost certain RCMP/Police will follow suit with NS, and completely encrypt their communications. Fire and EMS I'm very certain will remain unencrypted.

As i suspected . So there is hope to continue listening i have not really looked into it a lot but my understanding is you can decode P25 on a PC correct ?

You can listen to P25 with a digital trunking scanner, no special software required. You will not be able to hear encrypted talkgroups.
