Found Cap't Herb and the rest of the team sending traffic reports reports and general chatter on 450.25 MHz. He's a funny guy.

That is the WSB Traffic Center frequency. Herb flies in the helo (N2AQ) in the mornings and does the afternoon drive from his house out in Douglas County. You can also tune in 450.3875 and listen to Metro Traffic as well. A many years back (in the mid 90's) I flew in the "SkyPlane" which was N6555D (or we called it Chicken Fried Delta), but it's been replaced. Most of the traffic conditions are sent to the reporters via digital pagers so the other services won't get them (WSB & Metro work together). Herb and I go back a good 20 years that we've been knowing each other.

I hear Capt. Herb and Company on 450.25 all the time. I didn't know Metro still operated...let alone they're still on 450.3875. I used to monitor them back when I was still in high school, about mid 90's or so. Is there still a lot of activity on that freq? Haven't listened to it in awhile.

The Metro channel is pretty much relagated to "backup" status to the Traffic Center channel. Since they trade off info all day long, the reporters in the helo and fixed wing simply leave their radio's on Ch 1.

Ch 1 - 450.2500 Traffic Center
Ch 2 - 450.5125 AM-750
Ch 3 - 450.3875 Metro Traffic
Ch 4 - 450.3125 Tape Feeds
Ch 5 - 450.6500 B98.5
Ch 6 - 450.7500 WSB TV Audio

Unless someone changed the layout (I programmed all their radio's), they should still be what is listed.

I haven't been up in the helo is a good 5 years. I gots to go flying again!

PL tones? I'm scratching my brain on that one, but I believe they are:

Ch 1 103.5 or 107.2
Ch 2 DPL (don't remember it)
Ch 3 141.3
Ch 4 CXR
Ch 5 103.5
Ch 6 CXR or 141.3

BTW - if you ever hear "505" on the radio, that's me.

10-4 - thanks for the info. As much time as I spend in my car these days, I would love to have an ID on Metro - I could really help with traffic information. Hardly ever do I go somewhere that I don't see a traffic incident that impacts other people

Now, even though I never got my pilot's license (fixed wing single), I have 13, SUCCESSFUL, take off and landings as well as about 80 stick time! I think we could visit PDK and borrow something??? I prefer the 172 as it's a very forgiving aircraft! :)

I got to take the "stick" on a 206 and it scared the sh*t out of me. That bad boy was scary! Back in the 80's, I was on a MedEvac flight and heard that nasty BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP sound from the front. Pilot turned around and simply said "Folks, we got a problem and we are going down!" Pilot did an awesome job of auto rotating, and for me, it was like a Disney E ticket ride!

b7spectra, I don't know if you remember me or not. We used to message back-n-forth on the old scan atlanta BBS years back. I'm Sean. I think we had a couple of phone conversations about radios all those years ago. You worked for Metro Traffic back then.

I'm an airline pilot and still have a current CFI but haven't been in anything small for over 3 years. I'd love to go up in something and do some real flying.

Sure do remember you! How you been? I'm not working for Metro anymore, but I still make it by there to do some programming for them.

We got a ScanIn coming up in June - would love to see you there!

I"m quite sure you could get several of us here to pitch in and pay for the fuel!
