SKYWARN TOWSON

Anyone know if 147.03 SKYWARN Towson is still utilized and if so, what tone might apply? Any other SKYWARN freqs in the Balt area that would be worth plugging in, as well?

Dave please read the entire Skywarn thread posted elsewhere for other freqs as it's very comprehensive. As to 'Towson' (that's only 1 of several sites for the Baltimore Radio Amateur TV Society or BRATS), there is no PL tone on their repeaters, although they really should tone them - Philadelphia comes thru very nicely when skip is rolling. The freqs given there are pretty much it - for our area, if you kept your ear on the Anne Arundel net - actually run by the Anne Arundel Radio Club - and the Baltimore county net - run by the BRATS - that should pretty much cover it.

How do I know this? I was a BRATS member for many years, and ran a scanner/SWL tech net for almost a decade there.

Thanks for the response, Mike. What I was looking for was input on whether the Towson SKYWARN freq listed on the other board's thread is truly the only one in Balt & any PL info....and you've answered that for me here.

Yes, but that repeater doesn't reach the Baltimore area; typically Skywarn folks will relay obs to NWS via land line or other means. In fact, that repeater has a website on the Capitol Hill Monitors Virginia page.
