Sounds like it was probably a CB not a ham radio.

That is a great article and unfortunately not everyone appears to know the benefits of amateur radio operators (as kc4jgc noted) or mistakes them for cb-ers (which is hf though). Though, if I was in the situation of the wrecked trucker, I wouldn't mind anyone with a cb helping either.
